PART 17

DONE AND DUSTED (page 2)

And there we have it... one stress-free, reliable, modified, engineered and insured X-90! Now the hardest thing I will have to do is decide which trip to book into... and what to do next! You would’ve seen the final article in issue #114 and seen little Oscar on the matching DVD. Since them we’ve pushed Oscar to the limit... and he’s taken everything we’ve thrown at him in his stride.

The buildup has generated a lot of interest and it’s 50/50 on whether it’s loved or hated, with one gentleman stopping me and mentioning that he had ‘seen my creepy little car’ in the magazine. In all, Oscar works well both on and off-road, doing exactly what I need – nothing more nothing less. I’ve got my sports coupe-come rock crawler in one... I’m a happy girl!

So, point proven... it doesn’t matter what 4WD you drive, it can be improved dramatically with some well-thought out mods and accessories. Whether you go the bolt-on route or choose to create a custom product yourself, it’s all about deciding what you need and just going for it.

And planning is half the fun! Do you want to build yourself a weekend toy? Do you intend to cross the Simmo or spend 12 months doing the lot? There is so much information out there and your local 4WD accessory dealer is more than happy to help you out with advice. The 4WD community is huge, with plenty of experience and knowledge they are only too willing to share.

On that note, check out the rest of our website – especially The Shed and our Forum – for information on how others have built up their 4WDs. Most of all though, just Get Out There!

Cheers,
Squik and Oscar

11) We did a little testing here at the office a while back, when Oscar still had his little shoes on...not bad, eh?.
8) Oscar does what I need him to, and that’s what counts

9) .No hardcore comp truck, but all good!

10) I hate drop-offs!

12) Rear end flex is now only hampered by the wheel tubs and bigger tyres... where’s that air saw?

A BIG THANKS GOES TO...

Without these companies, who had the foresight to look past the fact that Oscar isn’t exactly the most attractive or easy to work on of 4WDs, the buildup would never have happened. It just goes to show that no matter what 4WD you choose to drive, there is always a solution and/or aftermarket product out there to vastly improve it.
