The very capable and unbreakable Toyota 60 Series is as tough as guts! Meet Lugh from the Forum and Shed who isn't affraid to put his 60 through its paces.

Talking Dirty with Lugh...

Name:

Dylan Roberts

Location (town and state):

Brisbane. Ergh. Hopefully moving back out to the countryside soon!

What do you do for a crust?

Well.... I'm a cabinetmaker and shopfitter by trade, but I work as a builder these days.

When did you join the A4WDM forums and why?

I first joined in December 2004, rejoined in January 07.

Why?

To talk about fourbies. One issue a month just isn't enough.

What do you drive and how long have you owned it:

I drive a 1980 Toyota Landcruiser HJ60. I bought it in January 2003.

What modifications have you done to it in that time:

32" Cooper ST's, Koni shocks, roofrack with home made awning, spotties, inverter, Couplertec rustproofing thingo, removed the aluminium side steps (with a rock) removed the passenger side mirror (with a tree), lots of scratches and a few dents. It already had a bullbar, towbar and UHF.

Where do you like going bush:

Glasshouse is my favorite playground close to home, Moreton island too.
Really anywhere that i can lock the hubs and have a play.

Any members off this forum you usually go wheeling with?

Goliath mostly, as he's my brother-in-law. Been on a few trips with GQMac, also been on trips with Twisty, Double Diffa and too many others to mention here. Some of those forum trips are huge!

Tell us about that first 'ooops' moment you had offroad:

Hmm...don't know which came first. Not checking the diff oil after playing in mud? Not checking the depth of that boghole? Paying attention to my sister who said: " What are ya? Chicken? Bwwaarrk!!" Having the engine die halfway up the hillclimb of doom and having to roll back down with no brake boost or power steering?
So many to choose from.

What's next on the list for your truck?

A new front bar, with some scrub bars and sliders to match, definitely some bigger meaner rubber, a fridge, some lift, the list goes on.

Any modifications you've made and since regretted, and why?

Not really. Everything I've stuck on has done it's job. If i had to choose something, probably the Cooper ST's. They've been a great tyre on and off road, but just not up to the punishment I've given them. Should have gone for something more aggressive.

What's the best single piece of advice you could give anyone new to 4WDing reading this?

Walk it first, check the depth, don't be afraid to ask questions, and don't listen to anyone who calls you a yellow-bellied chicken!
