4WD Action Newsletter
28th February Newsletter www.4wdaction.com.au

          In this newsletter :

GLENNO'S G'DAY
This weekend was a great reminder for us in the 4WD community as to why we get out there and give competitions a go, regardless of whether we’re running 35s with four inches of lift, or stock standard. The NSW Nissan Patrol Club’s Son of Trials competition was a blast, and some of the 4WD Action crew were there giving it their best. Squik and Jessie piloted Oscar the X-90 through a majority of the courses unscathed, and proved that even a SWB Suzuki with IFS can take on some of the harder lines and pull through unharmed. But, they were beaten by the better truck on the day, I gave my Rangie Elmo a run and had a ball. Go the Rangie!

Our next issue of the magazine is about to hit the stands, and it’s a beauty – I’m particularly looking forward to the beginning of our Best 4WD of 2008 series, and sharing with you the intense testing the chosen vehicles were put through during their trip up north.

I take a look at Bridgestone’s new puncture resistant all-terrain tyre, and put a set through their paces to see if they really do stand up to the harsh environments our country can offer. Shaun gives us a brief run down on the history of Range Rovers, how they’ve performed over time and what you can expect to pick one up for second hand.

Make sure you check out the DVD too, I reckon you’ll get a kick out of seeing three custom trucks give it their best for us, Best 4WD of 2008 - Part 1, and Roothy’s tour of the Katherine River region. All this and more delivered to your television! So, grab the missus and kids, and get yourself nice and comfortable on the lounge for some great off-road entertainment.

Enjoy this e-Newsletter, it’s crammed full of useful information, tips and links to upcoming competitions and events. In the meantime, jump on to the web and check out www.4wdaction.com.au, we’ve added some new features and tech articles for you to get your hands dirty with!

COME AND WORK WITH US AT 4WD ACTION

The 4WD Action Group is expanding – with expansion comes the need for more people.

We need people who have an interest in 4WDing and can put their thoughts down on paper.

If you have organisational skills you might make a very good production editor. If you understand 4WDs and how they work and can explain it on paper, a research and feature writing role might be for you. There is a variety of roles available, why not chat to Serika McBride about them and where you might fit in. Call 02 9741 3903 or email smcbride@expresspublications.com.au.

Don’t let the chance of a lifetime slip away.

This time round we’ve improved even more on our Best 4WD of 2008 test! Check out how we put five brand new 4WDs through their paces in the stunning Northern Territory. Catch up with Shaun as he runs you through some valuable tips and tricks for using tow ropes, and Terry Smith’s back with a whole new tyre tips segment.

I’ve got a DIY segment of my own that will set you on the right path to saving dollars and as always, there’s Roothy’s famous bush cooking.

TALKIN’ DIRTY
This week we caught up with Greg Russell, aka 4be from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, and had a look at his ’86 HiLux YN67 Ute.

Greg’s a truck driver who’s only recently joined The Shed, but has his ‘Lux dirty and covered from top to toe in mud, so we thought we’d better get it up and online for everyone else to check out.

THE SHED
Numbers on The Shed just keep on rising, with a bunch of new and old fourbies being added daily from like minded 4WDrs. We’ve totalled more than 6,000 users to date, over 200 videos, and over 14,000 comments from fellow Shed members!

You can do some amazing things already in The Shed, like getting your fourby up and online for mates to check out and vote on, you can have a squiz at other 4WD owners to get some ideas for your next upgrade, and much more.

We’ve got some great plans for The Shed in 2008, and will be unveiling them in upcoming issues of our eNewsletter. I heard some whispers around the traps of there being more integration with custom user maps and tracking, a boost to the already populated community of fourby owners, and even more new and exciting features.

Stay tuned and close to your email inbox to find out more, but in the meantime - get into The Shed right now, and check out what all the fuss is about!

CALLING ALL LAND ROVERS

Speaking of Land Rovers, this week we’re asking for all the ‘Rover owners out there to show the rest of the country just how tough their fourbies are.

Why not send us an email to customs@4wdaction.com.au with a bit about your Land Rover? Add some photos, and tell us where you’ve taken your pride and how she’s performed.

Last issue we put a call out to Pajero owners, asking them to send in pictures and details of their mighty 4WDs. Whilst we cannot reply to every one of the emails individually due to the sheer number of them, we want to take the time to thank you all very much. There are some really fantastic Pajs’ out there!

Here are six of our favourite trucks, out doing what they do best.

OFFROAD CLUBKHANA
It’s that time of year again, when the hills around Tarago in the NSW Southern Highlands come to life for the family-friendly Offroad Clubkhana 4WD competition. We love the Offroad Clubkhana because it’s a weekend of fun 4WDing that focuses more on driver skill than big-dollar, big-tyred trucks.

Plus, it’s situated on the grounds of the beautiful Willowglen, the club property of the Toyota LandCruiser Club of NSW. There’s plenty of space to throw a tent, so if you’re looking to get away into the bush soon, why not get along and check out the action on the weekend? Having been there every year since the competition’s inception, we can say it’s something we look forward to every year!

COMPETITION – STAUN
We’ve had a fair few people email us about this awesome Staun package worth $1100, but there’s still time to get in and send us your muddiest, dirtiest 4WD photos!

Check out the photos below for an idea of how muddy we want your 4WD to be to win this great competition!

We’re giving away one set of 5 Staun Internal Beadlock systems and a full set of Staun tyre deflators to whoever uploads the muddiest picture of their 4WD on their Shed page.

If you haven’t joined The Shed yet, make sure you take the time to register and upload your muddy pictures, and don’t forget to email us the link to your profile.

This has to be the dirtiest competition on the web!

Send the address (link) of your Shed page to competitions@4wdaction.com.au
How easy is that! Entries close on March 1 at 5:00pm.

If you don’t have any muddy photos of your 4WD, what better excuse do you now have to make this a dirty weekend?

The Staun Package:

One set of 5 x Staun Internal Beadlocks: These divide a tubeless tire into two inflated sections, giving you a barrier between the rubber on the inside of your tyre and the metal of the rim. This means you can run ultra-low tyre pressures without fear of rolling a bead, giving you an awesome advantage off the beaten track. .

4 x Staun Tyre deflators: Set these deflators to your desired pressure and make deflating a breeze. No more finding a stick on the side of the road to slowly let your tyres down!
