The only advice i woulkd give to aspiring 4WD travellers is simple... Get your rear off that TV sofa and move it into the drivers seat. Then… do it!
You don’t need the latest techno laden rig worth squillions, just some well looked after wheels with a short stick next to the big one. From our…. (By our I mean, Phyllis my life long love, fellow adventurer and excellent navigator) …weekend excursions to Cooloola coloured sands in a beach buggy back in the 70s to our recent two year Oz wanderings in a well appointed rig, neither of us have ever been bored exploring the best country on the globe.
But, I often get grumpy when we have to go home.
Start off with “the easy”. Improve your skills then tackle more difficult and more remote stuff as you gain experience. And….don’t do what I see so many others doing.
That is: Putting as many clicks on the clock as possible in the time available. You don’t see or experience this Great Southern Land that way. Just gets you and your crew stressed. Take time to smell the Kimberley Roses, delay to see a Cassowary and chicks on the Bloomfield track, dig a while on gem fields, soak in the Montecollina bore on the Strez and take in the awesome power of Thunder Bay’s indigo ocean.
