Travels with a Troopy Travels with a Troopy was born out of a desire to explore the remoter regions of this vast sun-burnt country, otherwise inaccessible in our VW Kombi. The Kombi offered self-containment, a degree of comfort and the possibility of a billy on the boil within seconds. We set out to replicate some of these advantages in our Troopy. Some might say, and do, that our approach is minimalist in the extreme, but it works for us. Full length slide out drawers not only house most of our gear, but provide the base for a luxurious queen-sized latex mattress. Ambient lighting is powered by a second battery, curtains and fly-screens adorn the windows. With our 50 litres of water plus long range fuel tanks we have a fair degree of autonomy. We find that the flexibility offered by our rig allows us to access areas of remote wilderness where we find inspiration in the solitude of each nights camping spot. In what now seems another life, I worked for IBM in Sydney. The training room was dominated by a large poster with 4 letters printed boldly on it… KISS… Keep It Simply S….., an ideology I’ve tried to adhere to. As I say, it seems to work for us.
