Any crank angle sensor problems ?

Anyone out there that Know anything about Crank angle sensors playing up ?

I have a 2004 3L ITD Rodeo with128000ks that hasn't skipped a beat till now .
It just wont start. Winds over and over but no kick at all.

Tried every thing Filters, bleeding lines, even the little gauze in the intake banjo for the Inj/pump.

Been told if the Crank Angle sensor isnt working the pump wont work.

I live in a little town in central Queensland and no one here has a code reader to diagnose it for me.

The engine light comes on if you turn the key to on but then goes out as it normally does and does not flash at me. Cracked the first injector but no diesel comes out when the motor is cranked.

The crank sensor is located at the top of the bell housing between the Block and the Firewall.

hi, it may be the immobiliser playing up, common on these things, try a different key or turn the key slower when starting, this may help the electronic reader pick up the code in the key. my spare key plays up from time to time.
also check for stored codes using a paperclip, the immobiliser throws up a code but doesnt display with the engine light.
if you wanna know more about it let me know.
good luck

Thanks fugwurgin. More Info would be very helpful.

The Central locking did die one day about 2 weeks ago. I walked out of a shop and the keypad didn't do anything so I thought the battery in it was dead, still didn't work after new battery. Worked if I put the key in the door.

The other day when the car wouldn't start, The mechanic was trying to get a code on his reader and the Cent/Lock keypad started working again and has worked ever since.

The code reader could not find any codes so the mechanic thought that it may not be the right reader.

How does the paperclip work ? I'm about to Take the Injector pump of and send it away for testing.

Any Info will be very helpful. Thanks.

i can email you a pdf file with instructions if you like. message me with your email address.
the central locking and immobiliser operate seperately, although the button might unlock the doors, if the actual ignition key is a bit dicky it might not work properly in the ignition (this is where the immobiliser is de-activated) this is why i suggested trying another key if you have one.

I think there was some sort of recall on the imobiliser or a mod they did at service time. I remember a mechanic mentioning something one time i picked mine up.

I would be trying to confirm that the injector pump is at fault before removing it. If there is a fault in the electrical system the there will be no fuel flow

hey, im kinda new to rodeos, but i know with patrols there is are 2 pins that you can bridge on the diagnostics plug and the engine light will start flashing to give you the error code, theres usually someone that can tell you what the flashes and length of flashes mean, rodeos might be the same but havent come across it to be honest

I have bit the bullet and removed the Inj/pump and sent it down to the Gold Coast to a diesel injector specialist who is a friend for testing. Have tried every test and have narrowed it down to iether the pump, imobolizer or the main computer.

How come I have a 84 2WD hilux with a ******* little petrol 3Y motor with 128000ks that I paid $500.00 for and a 2004 Turbo diesel Rodeo with 128000ks that I paid $24000.00 for and I'm still driving arond in the $500.00 one while the $24000.00 one ihas been sitting in a shed for 6 days with the Bonnet up.

If the pump comes back not the problem then I'l have to pay to put the stinking thing on a truck and take it 250kms to the nearest Holden dealer and then watch as they replace bits and peices till the thing goes.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ( starting to Really not Like it)

BLOODY COMPUTERS, they make the car better while they work but once the gremlins get in look out.

Hi all, was a tank of dodgy fuel at fault. It had a brown slime in it that passed through the filters and on hitting the heat in the pump turned into a sticky substance that etched itself into the metal and gummed up the vein pump as well as wore the moving parts.I had to take the fuel tank out and wash it and the fuel lines out with petrol. Got an exchange pump.

While I had the opportunity I adjusted the fuel sender so that it is more accurate. I will post a new thread with some photos in a couple of days so that anyone interested in doing the same can get an Idea of what the sender looks like. The new Thread will be called : 04 RA fuel sender Adjustment.

The car is going again, So thanks to all for helping to find out what was wrong.

PS. Had to apologise to the car as it wasn't its fault after all.
