End of 4wding in Coffs Harbour - The Great Koala National Park

Unread post by beaujest4 » March 20th, 2019, 6:21 pm

Could this be the end of 4wding in the Coffs Harbour Hinterland.

The Great Koala National Park.

The Great Koala National Park will give our dwindling koala population the habitat they need to thrive again. By adding 175,000ha of state forests to existing protected areas to form a 315,000ha reserve in the Coffs Harbour hinterland.
This is what Labor and the Greens (The Watermelon Party) will make happen.

These are the same State Forests all the 4wding in the Coffs Harbour hinterland are done in. Those iconic 4wd tracks will be take up by the Great Koala National Park and lost for all.

We all know what we can and can't do in a National Park just like we know what we can and can't do in a State Forest. That is why the majority of 4wding is done in State Forests. Once National Parks get given control of our State Forest it is only a matter of time before we either get locked out or the tracks are mismanaged to the degree we have no access to the tracks.

While the Coalition (Libs/Nats) are against the GKNP, we can only hope.

What will happen if Labor/Greens get elected then by all accounts they will push for the Great Koala National Park.

As there are Koala's in State Forests, more could be done to work with State Forests and State Forests Policies relating to Koalas to preserve and protect the Koalas. Instead they want to stop the Timber Industry and stop logging.

I am a regular recreational user of our State Forest not just as a 4wder and can see I will not be able to have my recreational lifestyle if the Great Koala National Park goes ahead.

What are peoples thoughts? The Coffs Harbour Hinterland has been in much debate with a few other locations as the best 4wding in NSW. It would be a major loss to the 4wd Community.

Unbelievable. On my last trip out west we stopped by a dam near Gunnedah and the bloody things where everywhere. Just because they are seen as being cute and cuddly doesn't give them more right to life than a snake or a goanna. Bloody greenies.

This can not be true or am i late for Aprils fools day. would be a shame if so as we have had many great days driving the tracks only to end up having a cool drink and lunch atop the mountain or Ulong.

The Watermelon Party have some 'out there' plans to deal with the 'Climate Change' that are just scary and dangerous to to both people in rural areas and those that use the bush.

With the Elections going the way they did, it looks like we are safe for a couple of years and see what happens next time.

Not real sure about that, once the plan has been spoken about sometimes it just grows. Does not really matter who is in power people get the idea of we need to protect the area. This is true but us real 4wder's are the ones that protect the area, clear tracks that may need clearing in case of some bush fire, clean up areas that other pigs leave behind as for the fear of the area being closed, and report any other mishaps. So we will wait and see what becomes of this notion, just wish the pollies could see and hear this.

Agree this plan of a Great Koala National Park has been going for some several years already. The Coalition State Government quashed it after the last election four years ago. If Labor stay in bed with the Greens or the Green numbers increase unfortunately it may happen. Also with the ever increasing trend o f Councils rather then being a regulatory body for each Local government Area, they are turning more and more into Political Groups and introducing Political ideals at Local levels. We have a number of very Green and Green/Labor Councils strongly pushing for the Great Koala National Park along with other Green based ideologies. Which is scary for the bush as the Greens have no real idea how to look after the bush.
