Mulder's Chariot - N70 Hilux

Unread post by Mulder030 » April 10th, 2018, 5:47 pm

Hey all,

Thought I would start a build topic for my 2014 Toyota Hilux. Or as I refer to it has - My Chariot. (a reference to the gold/luster colour)
I purchased the ute a couple of years back with hopes of turning it into a capable Tourer. Our first major trek would be to Cape York shortly after. However, that wasn't to be the case.

None the Less we are getting to the tip of Australia in less than 6 months.
There is a lot that will be getting done to the chariot and not much time to get it done in. So I hope you follow along.

So to paint a full picture, here was the Chariot as per the day of delivery.
Image

Straight out off the showroom floor I had fitted: -
- ARB Bullbar
- OME 2inch Lift
- Roof Consol
- GME UHF & Ariel
- Front Locker & Compressor
- Toyota Leather Seats
- Steel Tray
- And some genuine Accessories.

These were to be my only modifications for a while.
More recently I have continued the upgrades with the following.
- Light Bar
- Tray Lights
- Redard BCDC1225D Dual Battery system
- Redarc Dual Battery Gauge <- - Which I positioned it in a location I hadn't seen done before, Check out my 'Welcome-01' video to see it.
- TJM Snorkle
- 4x4 Dominator Rock Sliders <- - installation video on my YouTube channel, link above.

So that is where the Chariot is at right now. As mentioned above there are still a bunch things to do before we go and I intend on keeping this thread and my YouTube Channel up to date with it. I find the Video's allow me to take people along for the whole ride and I hope people get some enjoyment, even motivation from watching them. Just a little more personal than just photos.

Follow along - All Comments are appreciated on either platform.
If you stumble across to my YouTube channel and you're from the 4wd Action Forum, leave me a comment so I know where you're from. I'll Try my best to give some shout outs!
Let Keeps this Goin - -> Talk soon - Mulder.

Hey Mulder, that's one nice chariot you got there.
I really like it.

My class mate back in Holland his last name was Mulder. We
were so used to call him Mulder that I now have no idea what his first name was

Small Update

So I had some time up my sleeve over the weekend and decided to start planning the layout to the canopy. The old pencil and paper weren't cutting it so started clicking away on the computer.
Being a dual cab I had the option of running a canopy the full length canopy ( 1800mm x 1800mm ) but wanted to have a little versatility. If i wanted to stop and grab some fire wood, carry Jerry cans, gas bottle, etc. Not everything needed to be inside out of the weather. So I elected to cut it down to 1200mm depth and 1770 width, leaving me 600mm of tray space.

Below is what I have mapped out so far, trying my best to keep the measurements as true as I can from a desktop.
I hope the colours make sense. Any dashed line is obviously where you couldn't normally see due to the solid sides. But I have left the space closest to the headboard vacant for the 60ltr Engel. (hoping to get a drop slide, see how we go for money)
next obviously is a draw in which the Weber Q with be secured to for travelling. a dividers roughly in the middle and Lastly There is a shelf 200mm from the top of the canopy spanning across the whole canopy. This will be for a table.

I haven't drafted the other side up yet, but thinking of keeping it fairly basic for the bulky-ier items.

Let me know your thoughts and suggestions.
Would like to know if anyone has a similar set up and if they would do anything differently.

Cheers Guys & Girls

So That was an expensive weekend.
2 reasons for that.

1. So stumbled upon these brand new shoes for an absolute STEAL
Shout out to my mate for wording me up. Someone on Facebook was selling 5 x BF Goodridge KM2's (265/70 R17) Brand new never fitted for $900.

Thats $180 per tyre!! I was quoted over $340 from a few tyre local shops around me.
Needless to say I didn't hesitate. Saved myself $500 +.
I plan on getting these fitted over the next week or 2.

2. is related to my last post.
But will further elaborate when I have a little more information :)

Ok Update Time,

I have been Flat out on the weekends trying to fit out the canopy and getting the ute up to spec before we go.
So Where am I now.
as you might of seen in my last post there was a link to the video 'We have Lift Off' which will give you a run down on the canopy in the basic form.
Since then you now call it habitable enough to take out camping. 'Power Up' is the next installment of the Canopy build.
Link below :) :)

Go check it out and give it a like!
I would love to hear some feedback on the progress. ->Hit me up for a Chat<-

I have also linked my other social media platform in case you would like to keep more up to date with the build.
