owners opinion RN106 Hilux
Hi guys need some opinions on RN106 Hilux, What does the 22R motor go like in these hiluxes better than the 2.8 diesel? and what about fuel ecconomy? Reliability and motor life expectancy?

I've owned a single cab LN106R but they are far too gutless without a turbo, especially if you are going to use it as a daily driver,
and it seems like anything to do with the diesel motors is expensive opposed to the petrol motors, especially when buying something with a bit of age and kms that will eventualy need a rebuild.
so what kind of ecconomy do they get L/100km

Mines a 2.8, i get 10l/100km. Yes it's slow but you get used to it. If you're driving around in sydney traffic i doubt speed is an issue cause even though the 2.8 is slow its still capable of driving much faster than what sydney traffic allows. The only time its speed becomes an issue is on freeways or driving around hills on the great dividing range. But it still manages 11l/100km in that terrain. The worst mines been is 12l/100km but that was with about 150kms of low range 1st and 2nd on that tank plus we were loaded with heaps of gear in the back and a 12 foot tinnie.

yer wouldnt mind another diesel hilux specially with a turbo but doubt i would find anything decent for my budget.
when i had my 2.8 single cab never had a problem never broke down but yes slow very slow. from memory, it used to get around 12L/100km, but it had a large tray on the back that stuck out to the sides acting as a big wind break.

got a LN106 2.8. its got an aftermarket turbo but there's a prob with the turbo and it only makes 3psi boost. now this is the first hilux i've owned so i actually dont know how it goes without the turbo, but here's my facts:
- 200,000kms
- empty on flat highway - 9.5 km/litre
- with quad in tray and 1 ton camper trailer - 6km/litre (100km/h, 4th gear, 3100rpm)
we got RN106's at work and they are old, beaten to a pulp, ex-construction vehicles. it is unreal how the cars appear to fall apart around the engine. they dont stop. mates got one (dual cab 4X4) in top nick and gets 12 L/100km (half highway, half town driving to work)
no i'm not confused, he talks L/100kms, i talk kms/L

Re: owners opinion RN106 Hilux
Does anyone know if it is a straight swap from a 22r to a 2.8?
