BT-50 MAF sensor learning procedure - DLC-1 ??
Hi everyone,
Like a lot of us I followed the instructions in another thread on this forum to clean the MAF and MAP sensors on my BT-50. The Mazda training manual that I got off the net indicates that in order to launch the MAF sensor learning procedure, you must earth the TEN (Test ENgine) terminal on DLC-1 (Data Link Connector) five times in as less than 5 seconds.
Problem is I know where DLC-2 is situated, thats the one you connect the scan gauge to but I have no idea where DLC-1 is or what it looks like. the manual seems to place it in the passenger side footwell, below the A pillar or somewhere close under the bonnet but I'm not sure.
Does anyone have an idea ? A pic would be great if possible.
Thanks in advance,
Cheers,
Arnaud.

Hi Arnaud,
I have attached a wiring diagram out of the service manual that hopefully helps.
Cheers, Geoff

Geoff, thanks a million. I found a plug around the same area as what is labeled as D-02 with nothing to plug into so I reckon that must be it. I'll give it a go and let everyone know if this is the easy way to launch the learn procedure for the MAF sensor.
Cheers and thanks again,
Arnaud.

Re: BT-50 MAF sensor learning procedure - DLC-1 ??
Well, actually, I haven't tried it yet. The diagram shows what looks like 3
relays on a bracket bolted to the side of the engine bay, my car's only got two relays and a small plug with two wires just sitting there connected to nothing. There is still room on the bracket for something (the data connector I suppose) but there is no sign of it and it doesn't look like there was ever anything there at all. Don't want to take the risk of shorting anything out until I'm sure of what these two wires do.
Will try and see the dealer mechanic Saturday morning and let you know.

Maf sensor re learning 2009 4x4 bt50 3.0l Auto
I cleaned the sensors and my fuel economy went from 10l/100km to 12/100km hence the hunt to find the Maf re learn procedure.
Before I start
“ Extreme “ caution should be exercised with the following procedure because the engine revs up by itself up to 2500rpm .
1/ Warm engine up to running temp “above 82” won't work unless above this.
2/With engine running diagnostic port(next to windscreen wiper motor) pinout “TEN” short to ground 5 times within 5 secs. this can also be done through obd2 port.
3/ if 2/ is done correctly glow plug light will be on then within 30secs the engine will rev up in 3 stages from idle up to 2500rpm.
It will repeat once more through the revs then the glowplug light will flash for about 5 secs then goes out.
Note if some conditions are not met this cycles once and quits.
4/Turn ignition off wait then restart “done”
Have not driven too far other than around the block.... test will be next fill of the tank.
cheers Diemonty
ps the other red mark on the dlc is for the testing pin of the shift motor on the transfer case...yet another project.
try image save again @11/2018
I've since learned from Ozbush that the cycle can also quit if calibration is not needed.
update 15/11/2018
cleaned all sensors and went for a drive to heat things up,leaving the engine running I opened the bonnet and prompted the procedure and it only reved through once.
so I turned the car off waited a minute restarted, the prompted the procedure again and it went through the 2 cycles as needed.

Re: BT-50 MAF sensor learning procedure - DLC-1 ??
Update....
After a full tank of combined highway and in the burbs my economy has returned to 10.3L/100km happy as
well it's as good as it gets, car weighs 2300 kgs automatic with 275 65 r17 tyres. ecuwest tune def helps also.
I did the learn procedure when it was really humid and wonder if the results can be fudged by changing the air intake temps etc.

hi Diemonty,
How do you short the port pin out?

Hi Arief
use a piece of insulated wire with ends stripped and firstly find the pin position and stick it in the socket carefully avoid other terminals in the socket.
Then use the other end to "short" to the chassis or a bolt head like on the wiper motor to complete a grounding to the negative side of the 12v system.
don't worry there is no sparks or any indication that anything is really happening until you look at the dash to see the glow plug light.
cheers

Hi all,
Looking to revisit this thread and attempt the reset myself. Unfortunately the pics and attachments are lost in cyberspace. Does anyone have any photos they can post with the location of where to earth the TEN terminal on DLC-1?
