Recommend a Reliable Mechanic, Eastern Suburbs Melb?

Unread post by camelpromo » March 23rd, 2014, 9:58 am

I've had a quick search and couldn't find anything, and I think this is the right spot but please move if it isn't.

My father has had perpetually s--thouse luck with bad and dodgy mechanics (out of pocket well over 10 grand, unfortunately my dad is very polite and won't fight back when faults happen for blatant poor workmanship), so I am hoping someone can recommend a decent mechanic in the mt waverley/chadstone/oakleigh/camberwell and surrounding suburbs areas.

The car is a 1st gen Ranger, so probably a dedicated 4x4 mechanic would be the best place to find, but we want someone that will actually check the book and follow what has to be done, but also use common sense and grease uni's, adjust handbrake, check diff oil level, etc. Stuff that isn't in the book but should be checked/done anyway.

Thanks in advance!

Gday mate, i may be a bit biast in what im a bout to suggest because of where i live, and i appreciate it may be out of the way, but bayswater, and coolstore rd croydon has a pleathera of specialised 4by services, anything that can be done and thought of will be found up here, be it that we are so much closer to tracks out here and theres a higher demand im not sure?? but there are some real talented mechanics out this way. Hope that helps mate, all the best.

Recommend anyone in Western Melb for custom fabrications?

Unread post by jacnden » April 15th, 2014, 4:10 pm

hi all
I have used creative offroad fabrications in hoppers crossing for lots of mods to front and rear bars, sliders, dual batteries, suspension and lots of other stuff. found luke and bec great to deal with.
only problem is they have moved to queensland !
does anyone know of someone in western Melbourne that does custom work , welding, and just 4wd mods?

Try having a chat with the guys down at Western 4WD opposite the Hoppers shopping centre

They are always very helpful and may know a custom fabricator

Mate a couple places come to mind:

- 4x4 Obsession in Melton (http://4x4obsession.com.au/)
- Extreme 4x4 in Hoppers crossing (http://www.extreme-4x4.com.au/)

You can also try Werribee Exhausts - they do a lot of work on 4wds - I've used them before and they were pretty good and a mate of mine got some rock sliders fabbed up for his GU by them. (http://www.werribeeexhausts.com.au/)

Hope that helps.

thanks for that, I know both the hoppers places ,I will make some enquiries.
I did think extreme was just a mechanic and the other just exhausts. while I was searching I did find that melton website but it doesn't say much
It will give me somewhere to start :)

Oil and filters is a minor service, A major service could include anything from transmission fluid, transfercase fluid, diff oils, front and rear bearings, unijoints, timing chain ect.

New car for me means, all new filters, all new fluids, check all bearings, unis ect. assuming the bearings ect pass then it will cost you a few hundred $$$$.

I get my Dmax serviced by Robson Brothers in Welshpool.

They aren't the cheapest but they are very good.
