Got (or want?) bigger tyres? Come in here

Unread post by Nemesis » June 4th, 2011, 12:17 pm

Okay guys, we need your collective experience for some research on all Triton 4WD utes

What we need to know is whether you have 33" tyres, or managed to squeeze 35" tyres under your Triton, either model.

If so, how much lift required to do the job? Spring lift? Body lift?

Unfortunately, knowing your brothers mates cousins second best mate apparently did x" for x tyres won't cut it. We need facts if possible, what lift fits what tyres, guaranteed.

Your proven advice will go a long way to helping a lot of people!

Cheers

What series Tritons??

Mine is MK 2003 TDi.

Running 255/85 R16 which is about a 34" when actual dia is comparred.

Need 3"" body lift (a little fiddley with bars, gear levers and brake lines).

2" plus suspension lift using rockcrawler or equiv. HD torsions and Rancho 9000 shockies.

Trimmed guards and hammered firewall, no structual damage just opens up the area to avoid scrubbing.

Have read that guys in england run 35's with the same as above, too big for my little 2.8 and would only recommend if you have an auto.

i have Mickey thompson Baja MTZ 265/75/R16 (almost 32" i think) on stock 16" alloys on my 2005 MK Triton GLX-R.

i have wound up the torsion bars a little bit and they only scrubbed for a few days on the lowest, furthest back part of the front bumper. after that a little tiny piece broke off the bumper and its all good. an ARB bullbar would fix this though, as they leave more clearance in this area.

The V6 turns them alright, much bigger and i think it'd be getting pretty slow though, and the gearing would be a bit high

MK triton
standard suspension
wound up torsion bars
shorter bump stops
no body lift
Maxxis buckshot 33x12.5x15 these measure up to about 32.1 inches
-22 degree 15x8 sunnys (cruiser offset) minor scrubbing at full articulation
-10 degree 15x8 sunnys (patrol offset) zero scrubbing ever

MK triton
standard suspension
wound up torsion bars
shorter bump stops
no body lift
Simex Jungle trekker II 34x10.5x16 these measure up to about 34.7 inches
some crappy standard triton positive offset 16x6 rims
minor scrubbing at rear under flex
minor scrubbing on front mudflap at full articulation, fixed with a couple of love taps with a hammer
heavy scrubbing on chassis at full lock

I got a ml Triton with a 45mm lift, 285/75/16 on an 8" alloy rim. Only needing slight trimming of the mudflap.
(steel tray so can not really help you with the rear wheels, but I'm sure they are fine.

In my opinion the ML/MN Triton's have the largest wheel wells out of all of the new model dual cabs, which requires the least amount of work to fit 33's (next to no work).

Cheers Mickey

MK Triton
2inch lift
Standard GLX-R rims 16X8? Maybe 16X7?
265/75R16 Maxxis Bighorn 764's
Only a tiny bit of rubbing on the inner side of the front mudflaps on full lock over a bump, otherwise no drama :)

09 Triton 3.5Ltr GLXR - what offset rims work?

Unread post by James1987 » September 9th, 2013, 12:02 pm

Hi All,

New member here and first post.

Just bought an 2009 triton GLXR and have already lifted it 2 1/2 inches (loving life)

i am looking at putting 33' mud terrain tyres on 15 inch sunraysia ROH rims. Can any1 tell me what offset rims i should order to minimise the change of hitting the chassis?

Is there anywhere that does a resonably priced bullbar and/or sidesteps/rail?

Can i get a snorkel for the 3.5ltr petrol model?

Thanks in advance guys :)

Be very careful.... I will almost bet that a 33" tyre on a 15" rim will not even come close to meeting the load rating requirement for your Triton. Something to check into again.
ROH make good rims. I have 3x ROH Trak 2 16 x 7 rims in +30 offset on my camper trailer.
The triton I am pretty sure has a wheel offset from the factory of +38. So a set of 16x7 Trak 2 30P's should fit your triton perfectly (and legally), so long as you can confirm that the rims do not foul on the front brake callipers. For what it is worth, these rims fit on all corners of my NP Pajero....
Then I would be looking at something like a 265/75x16 tyre. Pretty much all brands of muddies should be available in this size, which equates to about a 32" tyre.
If you do in the end decide you want to stick to a 31", 245/75x16 is the go.
The bigger you go, the more fuel your V6 is going to guzzle!
Hope this helps, Dan.

Hey Dan,

Thanks for your help mate. I got the 15 inch rims and they didnt fit anyways as they touched the front brake calipers. So i guess im going a 16" ROH Black Track rim anyways :)

Am putting on a mates 33's this thursday to see if they hit the guards but im thinking ill most likely go a 31" tyre to save the drama's.

Im so excited to actually be in my own car driving with my mates in places i can go now too... without getting "stuck" haha :)
