Tyre advice - what're Goodyear Duratracs like?

Unread post by LandRover-Biohaz » April 23rd, 2010, 1:07 am

Hey guys, looking at updating the feet on the ol' girl and just wondering what everyone's latest comments on the goodyear duratracs are.
how they wear on road, and how well they stick in the wet.

4WD action mag just did a major article on all the major brands just last month I think, you should definately read it before buying.
Believe it or not but the Maxxis came out as the most consistant performer across all terrain.
Some of the big names (like I have) didn't do well at all. I was most annoyed!!!

hmmm. well i got quoted $263 a tyre, discounted from $299.
Biggest problem is finding something decent that's compatible with the standard rims.
Dunlop has an AT described as a 50 off 50 on road for about 10 bucks less than the duratracs.
atm i'm running duallers and they just don't dig the mud that well.

No experience with Duratracs sorry. Very happy with current set of Maxxis Bighorns both on-road and off-road. Not so impressed with my road tyres, Cooper HT Plus... tend to wander a bit.
Was happy with previous set of Cooper ST's on the Rangie though.

Am serioulsy thinking about trying out the BFG AT KM2's next.
Cheers, Paul.

i struggled with the question of which tyre for sometime myself. if you really want to see a differance go a set of muddies. i got a set in 235/85 r16 (same as original size) and they are really comfortable. true they are a bit noisy but well worth it offroad

yeah that's the thing tho. With where i live (50 k's to any town with more supplies than the local store), i do too much on-road driving. And can't afford to be replacing my tyres every year or less.
I've had a look at the Dtracs in the shop and compared to a full blown mud, they look fairly capable.
Also, considering what the duallers i'm running at the moment can do. I'm quite sure they'll stand up to my wishes.
Was just looking for some 3rd party opinions on them is all.
And yeah, i've heard they're shitloads quieter than you'd think, but who cares. My right foot's too spasmy for noise to be of concern.
