Nice rig you got there mate!!
Gotta love the old rangies...

Just one Question, in the second pic is that your brake line pulled super tight...If you have a decent lift i would look at extending those...

I think my old D3 is back in this thread. I sold it....sadly in April last year. I now have an 03 TD5...which took some getting used to a) from a D3 and b) to a diesel from a V8. This is what "Smokey" looked like when I bought it...

Image

Pretty much stock standard.....after almost 8 mths of waiting patiently....I started the first mods/ accessories for camping etc.

Smokey with Rhino Rack for Oztent and gear.

Image

But I wanted more, so on went a 2 inch lift and sliders...

Image

and the final touch a couple of days later....

Image

What it is all about.....

yeah mate there the brake lines. its only a 2inch at the front, so its not too big, yet.
that is round the top of my to do list though. coz i've got a feelin its actually limitin the front end travel. which is amazing coz its only a brake line. lol.
i really like your disco. looks nice and mean. i nearly bought a disco but the rangie just had more goodies.
making a front diff gaurd for her at the moment.

full coil conversion with dobinson 2' springs and lovells shocks,
bilstein steering dampner
airtek snorkel
32' bighorns on steelies
custom made sliders
front recovery point
uhf, cd/usb/mp3, bluetooth
custom halfway exhaust (levuka exhausts lol lol lol:crazy:)
removed rear step n a few other lil bits,

very soon will be a rear locker n axles, maybe 4' coils, rear bar
almost sold it in favour for a defender but i think im just gonna continue on it til im over it.

Project Dunga

Unread post by tpj77 » March 20th, 2009, 10:18 am

Here's my 88 Rangie, affectionally known as project dunga by me. idea to spend as little as possible and play as hard as possible as well.

The blue 87 Hi-Line that I had Micka now has that, I had a 90 Vogue SE but was written off due to a engine fire fron a dodgy oil cooler line :mad::mad::mad:

Bit of background, bought this beast for $1650 with a club mate, he took the bars, carrier, LR tanks, child restraint bar, etc.. and I got the Rangie as a bare canvas ready for me to cut, shut and bend off-road too. It's a 5 speed manual, 3.5 EFI with 400+ on the clock (still goes hard too considering) and had very little rust as well which was important thing for me :thumb: it had been pretty well maintained over the years including a gearbox rebuild sometime back (done roughly 80 thou since it was done, drives great though), although the Rangie had been not serviced for a while the previous owner said. Had a stack of reciepts for it during there time owning it, so in my mind it was a good buy and it was now mine.

So far, my additions to the dunga have been the following-

2 inch Dobinson coils and Pro-Comp shocks on the rear (Tough Dogs on front, were on it when I bought the dunga)
285/75R16 Silverstone Mt117 sports on Dynamica 16x8 rims
25mm body lift (was fitted when I bought it)
ARB bullbar and Tigerz11 12000lb winch (great winch for less than $600)
Plenty of guard cutting to fit the 33's on. Even with a 2 inch spring and 1 inch body lift, the tyres rub badly on compression (bump stop extensions may be the next add-on)
rear guard chop, got sick of belting panels at the rear and they're bent after 3 trips anyway.
GME uhf radio
ARB rear diff lock with High-tuff axles (24 spline)
2 1/4 spots exhaust (has to sound like a V8 at least)

Still a few items to sort out. The front diff lock is on the cards soon as well as 3 inch flexi coil lift all round. I also have a good 3.9 sitting in the shed for a bit more grunt, just have to get off my arse and rebuild it :D

I agree...that County is hot. Think I saw it around the Morningside area the other day?

My coils are 3" Lovells with Lovells shocks. I've also got 30mm spacers in the rear to raise the fat arse up a bit. Front shocks are 80 series Cruiser and rear are xtra long Rover. Could have gone with the Patrol rears but there wasn't much in the length and I also would have needed a pin-to-eye converter.

Most of the cosmetic work on mine was already done by Trav (tpj77) or Aquarangie as I know him best. I just put the stronger components in and a bit more lift.

so i'd assume u dont break things that much?
im goin onto my 3rd rear diff. but this time it'll be runnin 24 spline axles so hopefully it'll hold out until i can get it locked.
has the 3inches affected caster angles and such? coz i wona get mine riddin a bit higher but because of my very limited funds, at the moment i only wona go as high as it will let me without having to replace trailing arms and such.
i think ive done a pretty good job at getting it felxing from this:

Sorry i didn't get back to you sooner, I don't get on here that often.

I paid about $265 for a new mufler, Y-piece and RHS pipe which was $130 on it's own as the old one was rusted badly and needed replacing. a @ 1/2 was about $30 more than the 2 1/4 that I have on.
