Charcoal canister filling with fuel?

Unread post by A1 Mech » March 4th, 2013, 10:52 am

Howdy

Mate has a a 1984 Range Rover which appears to be filling the charcoal canister with fuel and over flowing into the tappet cover? What could be a cause of this and what could be a solution?

Thanks for any info.

Probably the breather or overflow vent on the fuel tank is blocked, so whenever you fill the fuel tank, any expansion of the fuel (which always occurs when fuel comes out of the ground at a lower temp & gets pumped into the fuel tank & then expands as it reaches ambient temps) gets forced thru the emission control hoses & into the charcoal cannister, etc.

Check all the vents and breathers on the fuel tank, make sure that none of the fuel hoses are kinked or blocked, and make sure that all the one way check valves in the fuel system work the way they should. ;)

Good Luck
