Step by step to vitara door pillar repair.

Unread post by daddyoskustomgarage » July 16th, 2013, 1:21 am

Most of us vit owners at some stage end up with a dropped drivers door or shakey door syndrome due to the locating nuts breaking though the a pillar when moisture causes it to rust from inside out , here is how i fixed mine .....after the previous owner did the panel glue trick on this one and some dodgy fill welding

I decided to cut the pillar out around the locating bolts for the top hinge and weld in a new piece of reinforced steel to stop this happening again .

This is what i found after i flapped the panel glue off

Step one : remove front guard
Step two : remove door trim , unplug wires and feed out of the door
Step three : undo door bolts and remove door

Step four : mark and cut

Before i make the new plate and weld it in im going to hit it with por 15 to stop any rust returning

I copied the old plate and welded it in .....

Now in need of a tidy up . I also braced the rear and welded a 4 mm plate around the nuts to stop any pulling out happening again . And i also indented the plate 2.5 mm to get a better door seal.

Next paint

Finished upol lined pillar

did you paint the inside of the pillar? or treat it with rust proof?

If you cant get in there wont it just rust out again from the inside welds?

so just to be clear the inside of the piller only got rust treated with p.o.r 15 and fish oil?

Not trying to be rude, I just have wondered about how to do this sort of thing.

Yeah mate that's right por 15 is great for stopping rust , fish oils just something extra not that this would rust out in a hurry the pillar is now 4mm solid plate and then plated from behind and tacked .
