Hi All.
I fitted new Crown power steering pump to my 2002 4.7 V8 Grand Cherokee limited as the previous pump leaked. Six thousand K's later I have a quite loud whine from the pump. My supplier can not supply a replacement Crown at the moment, so has sent a second hand genuine pump, it whines too, but nowhere near as loudly. Anyone else have this problem? Could it be the oil?

Re: Power steering pump whining.
Is the fluid reservoir full? Power steering pumps develop a noticeable whine if the fluid level drops significantly.

is it really the pump? the aircon pump pulley bearing can make a similar noise, as can the idler pulleys.

Thank you gentlemen, I will check the fluid level as well as the idler and aircon pulleys.
