now we are going to use it for a trip to the cape next year so im going to stat building it up like draws fridge slide spotties maby 30's or 31's roof rack snorkel.

Have a look at members rides/rigs or 'the shed'. Plenty of Terrano's and Pathfinders in there.

hmmm... you better upgrade your waterpump mate! these terrano's are made for the european climate! they overheat real quick in hot conditions!
if you wanna do a trip to the cape get a big radiator made up and get your hands on the "right" waterpump!
little motor, turbo, gets hot quick! tipical nissan problem.
other then that, a very nice little rig!

Overheating

Unread post by goody59 » August 26th, 2010, 4:22 pm

offroadjack, Not sure if the water pump is the issue. I have the 98 Turbo diesel Terrano 2. Had the overheating issue occur once on driving up the Billygoat track into the High Country in Eastern Victoria a few years back.
My take is the viscious clutch fan stops working after certain revs because the stock set up believes at that stage you are going fast enough for air flow to be produced by vehicle speed v's fan usage. That does not make sence for a 4x4 as engine speed does not equate to vehicle speed. I have not done this yet but I feel the fix would be to remove the fan and add a large electric fan activated by temperature with a manual switch too. A Davies Craig set up that also has fan activate with the aircon swithed to on as well. Am out on the right track here or have I got it wrong? It is a very capable 4x4 other that the overheating issue.

water pump

Unread post by ben_al69 » August 29th, 2010, 5:00 pm

hey guys

ive done the water pump and put a davies craig fan instead of the clutch fan. water pump is a navara pump. trust me, it makes a HELL of a difference!!! plus got more power without the fan pulling on the motor all the time.

ps. i have a terrano 1 1990 but same td27 without intercooler

What model Navara water pump fitted? What size Davies Craig fan did you use? Is that fan mounted in the shroud of original fan as a 'pusher' type? Can you send me some pics to goody59@aapt.net.au. This sounds like exactly the mods I need for my 99 Terrano 2. Did you do the work yourself? How hard was it to change out water pump and to take existing fan off and fit electric fan?
