power steering fails

hi folks, got a question for you.. i own a 98 pathy, of late ive notice the power steering seems to fail after ive driven through water.. can any one give me a reason why this would happen/causes an how to repair??

The only thing which fits the symptom is the drive belt gets wet and for a while it slips and provides no power to the steering pump.

Possibly the belt is worn out and is also bottoming in it's groove/s which would also make the slip rate worse.

New belt and tightening will possibly fix it.
I wouldn't just tighten the belt as you have noticed the slipping and therefore it is likely to be in less than perfect health.
