Thinking of buying an R51..

Unread post by jPathy » July 9th, 2012, 7:48 pm

Hey guys,

I used to own a R50 Pathy, then bought my hilux which ended in tears. I then bought a Honda accord Euro but am really missing the practicality of the 4X4 and even with the hilux i really missed having a wagon so im thinking of buying an R51 Pathfinder..

I have a few questions which i hope haven't been already asked to death.

I have about 25 - 28k to spend so looking for something 05 - 07 model and either an ST-L or Ti.. My preference is definately the Ti as it has alot of the creature comforts my accord has and it'll be hard to let go of them. My biggest bug bear is the fuel economy, in my R50 it skulled fuel and it was hurting the ole wallet a bit. Are the new petrol pathys any better on their fuel economy ie; how much is it costing to fill the tank from empty and exactly how many k's are you getting out of it?

Then im thinking the diesel would be ideal but they seem rare as hens teeth in a Ti model.. Is there anything else i should be wary of with the R51's and do they have blutooth and iPod connectivity in them?

Cheers in advance.

Hi J Pathy
I have a 08 diesel auto the fuel economy is a bit higher than I thought it would be getting around 12l/100k's were I had a 98 diesel jackaroo always got 10's. Mine is and ST-L and it doesn't have any bluetooth or ipod I think that they became standard from 09-10 models.
Cheers
Byron

Thanks for the info Byron,

Id be interested to hear how the consumption is in the petrol models, if the diesel as chewing it the petrol ones must have a direct connection to a fuel tanker! I would have thought Nissan would have created something better with their engines by now!

The petrol R51 uses around 15L around town and 12ish on the Hwy. also depends on how you drive too.
My diesel was dissapointing when I was driving it around inner sydney. Was using 15L but then istalled a chip it "chip" and does better now. Im using 12ish around town (short drives) and lately low 10's on the Hwy.
One way to improve the economy of both is to replace the std muffler with a free flowing one as its very restrictive and the exhaust going over the rear axle as its the only section that isnt mandrel bent and is squashed significantly.

I have a 2008 pathfinder R51 ST-L turbo diesel. I think it's great with fuel , in short drives ( city ) it uses average of 13.5 l. And long drives around 12 l. I think diesel pathies have less power than petrol but the a diesel engine last a life time .
There is no iPod connectivity or Bluetooth but u can always fit an after market unit for around $700.
Cheers

Sorry, but for a modern 4 cylinder direct injected diesel, those economy figures are horrendous!

Mines 06 ... ST t/d ... I'm pullin 10's for mine... Only higher if I give it on the tracks/beach... 12 isn't too bad but still could come down a litre... Depending on so many factors though( tyre pressures, roof racks, how's she's running bla blah)...
