ive had mine for 2 weeks, bought off original owners, 258,000km runs like a dream. 10.5l per 100km ( that's really only calculated from driving to and from work in moderate traffic).
Its my first 4wd and ill probably spend more than its worth to set it up for some touring and camping.
Good luck!

i bought my mk about 7 monthe ago, had 306000kms on it now has 3130000kms and in that time so far it has been on a few tracks, performed well and has been a very very reliable vechicle. It gets around 10l per 100km, as long as it is serviced regually you will get many happy travelling kms out of the vechicle.

bought my MK turbo diesel ute with 418,000km about 8 months ago for 1300 bucks ...
painted it, new windscreen, some bushes and got it registered costing all up $2301.00

since then its been to the most northerly point of Australia, the most southerly point of Australia, the most easterly point of Australia, the highest point of Australia and will be trying for the most westerly point of Australia in May

its now done 437,000 so far the only problem has been the throttle cable bracket came loose, 30 second fix :D
