99 GU TD42 Boost

Unread post by quozie » October 23rd, 2017, 8:50 pm

Hi,
I suspected my turbo wasn't boosting enough. I installed a boost gauge via t piece into the hose between boost control and waste gate.
I'm only boosting to a max of 5psi at 3200rpm.
I feel even at factory it should be greater! Economy is 17lt/100ks.
Is this normal?
How can I get more out of my factory turbo?
Is it stuffed?

Tia!

Are you sure your gauge is reading correctly? That's probably the most likely issue for a low reading on an a/mkt plumbed in gauge... otherwise, I'd guess that either you've got an air leak somewhere, probably after the turbo; or you've got something fairly significantly wrong with the turbo/vanes themselves... If you can't feel/hear/see an air leak on the boost/intake side (& it should sound pretty loud!) then it's time to get it to a Nissan Dealer to check over the turbo.... or maybe you could completely replace it with an upgrade kit, & not only get 'standard' boost back, but scads more besides! :thumb:
