Is Wrecking an hdj79r viable? ....maybe?

Unread post by Roadwarrior » February 19th, 2017, 10:41 pm

After some thoughts. I have had the opportunity to buy one of our soon to be ex work utes. A HDJ79R for $15 000 with 400 000 kms on it with a new turbo.. All I'm interested in is the 1HDFTE engine as im thinking of rebuilding and swapping into my 105 wagon that has a 1HZ.
The ute comes with spray tank and duel pumps and hoses which i should be able to flog off as well as custom tray body and tool box/lockers which ill also sell off and has the factory optioned front and rear diff locks, so the diff housings, axles and rims can all go as well as the winch, panels, doors ,guards. All im keeping is the engine and transmission. The interior can go to whoever wants what.
Ill send the cab chassis and bullbar off to scrap. Anyone have any input as to weather this would be a viable exercise??. I believe this model is well sought after.

If you have the time to strip it, a place to store it, & an Ebay account or similar, go for it. But, how much would you pay for an engine in that condition? Deduct that off your $15k and that's how much you need to make to break even...

Correction. It has 360 000 kms. The engines seem to go for about 9 grand.
However i have had second thoughts. I might clean her up for a quick turn around as the same model goes for much more money even with nearly 100 000 more kays on it.
