Hi Stuart the 90/95 series came out with a 3400V6 petrol, 2700 4CYL petrol and a 3000 4 cyl diesel.
The 120 series came out with 4000 V6 and 3000 4cyl diesel.
For 12k I would think you'll get a very nice 90series top range grande petrol or a higher km's GXL diesel
In the 120 series maybe a higher km petrol V6?.
What to get? well only you can answer that as you know what you intend to do with it.

Just my thoughts on it

Hi all this is my prado 98 2.7 rv currently got TJM 2inch lift, 32 "bighorns 16x8, TJM fitted snorkel, duel batt.
Future plans are airlockers 2 1/4" stainless exhaust and hi flow cat and extractors with high boost supercharger from bullet racing in qld also a long range secondery fuel tank , swapping the alloy bar to steel winch bar and 12000 pound winch, full lenth roof rack and rooftop camper. These 3rz motors are great 550 to 600 kms a tank 90ltr good gearing lsd works great . only let down a bit slow when towing up hills . if anyone else out there has supercharged the 3rz motor i would be grateful to hear about how your 4x4 performs now thanks all chris

Well, after almost 20years of waiting and dreaming, I've finally got it. My 2007 GXL 4.00V6 120 series Prado. I couldn't be happier. Only done 162,000Klm, got an ARB bulbar and bit's and pieces. I've already put in my GME and can't wait to get it out into the bush around Toolangie, Gembrook, Mansfield and anywhere around Melbourne that I can. Still shopping for a snorkel and some rubber for it's corners but acting like a kid at the moment.
