What are 2L-TE Head bolt torque specifications Please?

Unread post by Coco7 » December 2nd, 2013, 8:33 am

Hey guys. We just recently went to put a new head onto our toyota surf LN130 with a 2L-TE in it but one of the head bolts broke as we were torquing it down. We read in the "Max Ellery" tear down and rebuild book that all the head bolts are to be torqued down to 87ftlb - 118Nm of torque. But right when it reached 87ftlb the bolt broke at the exact same time. We have read on the internet elsewhere that they have to torqued down in 2 stages, first stage at 36Nm then second stage at 78Nm. Obviously 118Nm is to much lol but does anyone know what the torque specs are? 36Nm then 78Nm sounds about right to me but has anyone on here done this before? Thanks guys.

hi did you use new head bolts or did use the old bolts because you can not reuse the old bolts they
will brake when you try to torque them down
