Which g/box & diffs will bolt to my 89 4Runner C/dore V6??

Unread post by rorkey » May 19th, 2014, 7:58 pm

Hi , my name's Peter & I'm from northern Tassie. I have a 89 4Runner with a Commodore V6 installed, that was about 5 years ago. Since then I've bought back & front pinion & ring gears, 41x10; only the rear fit. Good in the bush with a load of wood, dry bush that is, but no good on the highway - I keep looking for that sixth gear which I don't have! So what I'm asking is, is there any body out there who can tell me which gear box & diffs will bolt straight up to my 4Runner & give me the best results....??

Please.

the commodore motor should have enough torque to handle higher gearing than what looks like 4.1 -1diffs you currently use, Vn commies had 3.08 ratio, so if you look here

you might find a ratio in between that suits

What size tyres do you have?
Quite a bit of gearing can be done with rim dia/size and tyres dia.size and profile, if they fit the vehicle.
A Commodore which has a 3.08 diff had a smaller diameter tyre/wheel and so the gearing is quite different there.

You probably don't need gearboxes or diffs if the tyre adjustment can be made.
