2nd pinion seal busted in 12 months
Hi all, I took advantage of the recent wet weather and went and had play in the mud on the weekend and managed to spring a leak from the pinion seal. The thing is, is that I did the same thing last time I went mud not long after I bought it. Is this common? The diff breather seems fine so not too sure whats going on here. Ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance.
Matt

Check your pinion bearing preload, and for mud in the seal.

Did you fix the seal youself the first time or get a mech to do it.
Its on of those jobs where if you can find a diff specialist its worth the extra $$

Cheers bala will do mate and Rogers cruiser I took it to a gear and diff specialist last time and it was probably cheaper than a standard mech would have charged. It only cost me $80 and he had it done in a little over an hour. I think I'll take it to him again but ask about my options re. Keeping mud from doing damage everytime I have a play.

That is the cheapest trip the the diff specialist I ahve ever heard of, mine charges $150 and hour for diff and transmission repairs, I would be making sure hes on the level.

I dont know a real lot about diffs, but isnt there a bearing for the pinion to turn in?? cuz im pretty sure that if the bearing is stuffed it causes excessive pinion wobble and causes the pinion seal to leak.. Its the same with axles.

Hmmm maybe. It's only a slight leak this time around but I'll be sure to raise the question when I take it in. Cheers coco7
