LN106 NA 2.8D 225/75R16 tyres (at appropriate pressure) 150L of fuel 1750km (approx. 1200km highway with full load of camping gear and 550km 'round town lightly loaded)

something like 8.6L/100km

adjust tyre pressure for load, KEEP THE REVS LOW. the number of folks i know saying their diesel drinks fuel then go on to descride their driving style, well it's no wonder. a mate's LNsomething with 5Le turboed 31" tyres sitting on 120 with the A/C cranking was using about 21L/100km...

Thats a 29 inch tyre. Your speedo will be out with that size tyre. The oddometer will read more than what you have actually travelled.
What ever your odometer says you have travelled remove 10% of it to get a true measure of distance with that tyre size then work your consumption from that. Otherwise use a gps to be accurate.
So using your figuers you really got 9.5 liters per hundred. Still pretty good.

that's not right, eraser. the 225/75R16's are 1.3% larger than stock tyre (205/80R16). i'm really not sure where 10% figure came from?

this would mean we had in fact travelled some 1773km stretching out the 8.6L/100km to a massive 8.5L/100km.

i did, however, forget to mention i have extractors and modified pipe on the old girl which, some may argue, had improved the economy from standard.

out of interest, i did a trip over easter pulling a 4.8m aluminium boat and camping gear and to say my economy suffered is an understatement - i was up for a top-up 980km into the trip. worked out to roughly 15.3L/100km. head-wind and hills had me struggling to maintain 80k's in top gear at times. still got where i was going eventually...

For a hilux speedo to read 100% acurate with factory 4.3 diff gears it needs to run a 32inch tyre. The tyre your running is smaller by 10% in rolling diameter so when your speedo says you have travelled 100km's, you have really only travelled 90km's. So in your above figures remove 10% from the 1750km which equals 1575km then work your consumption from that. If you dont beleive me use a GPS to moniter your distance travelled on a trip and you will notice it wont be the same as whats shown on your trip meter. My 10% figure isnt exactly spot on but very bloody close.

Thats the reason the original poster said to make sure your speedo was accurate or use a gps to measure distance.

i have used the gps to check speed and showed speedo was out by 1.5-2km/h which is fairly consistant with the 1.3% larger tyre size.

i'm not sure if you're confusing my model with another, but my ute never came out the factory with 32" rubber.

Nope not confusing yours with another model. I know your model came out with 29 inch tyres just like all other 2.8's. I also know that they all under read speed on their speedo. Having had mine engineered and having played with a few hiluxs i know that with factory gears if you put 32 inch tyres under it, it will read 100% acurate.
If you say your one reads that close to a gps with those size tyres them either someones had a play with it at some point or it just might be correct and a very rare one.

well after going away this week I worked out that with the 33's on my hilux's speed is 10km/h out. So when im doing 90 in the speedo im really doing 100km/h.

Also in the high country I returned fuel figures of around 18L/100kms (before doing speedo correction stuff). Not as bad as my brothers pootrol but that was getting around 23-24L/100kms

Ok so on this how far is your speedo out thing, my Ln106 with 31's is about 5% out. When speedo reads 100kph my gps reads 105kph, but the trip metre is out by about 10%. After travelling a measured 5k's the trip metre reads 4.55 k's travelled.

Something else that might be of interest to some, I had my instument cluster out on Monday to replace a few illumination globes and after reassembling I noticed the speedo was out of whack more than normal. When not moving the needle was way under 0kph and at about 83kph on speedo I was doing 100kph on my GPS. So I pulled it out to fix it and noticed the speedo reading is sort of adjustable. You can adjust where the needle rests when stationary, which changes readings right across the range. So in my situation I could adjust so that the needle sits at about 5kph when stationary which would give me an accurate reading at 100kph, but at say about 50kph indicated speed I would only be doing about 47.5kph. So if you're worried about speeding fines due to inaccurate speedo this might be a quick and free fix for you, although not a perfect fix.

If your worried about speeding fines, calculate how far out it is and drive under. I know mines about 10km/h out. So if im in a 100 zone I will sit on 90. Which technically should be the same speed as everyone else. If your going way faster then everyone else, you know your doing something wrong.

I have a LN106 2.8 NA with exrtracters. When i was running 31's i would ALWAYS get 400 km to the tank, regardless of 4x4ing highway, round town, towing ect. i did 403 km to a tank and 407 to a tank, and it coughed around the corner to get to the petrol station. I'm now running 33's, the speedo is 10km out, and i get around the 450-500 km to the tank.

k's per tank doesnt mean anything. Especially when you dont mention which model it is as they have differant size tanks. I get 1250km's per tank................

I'm with you ERASER, when I get my new setup sorted I should get about 1200km's per tank. Doesn't mean anything without knowing how many litres per fill.

Hey guys. I've recently had my 3L turboed with the denco kit on 10psi. I was getting 450-480km a tank 100km at 3100rpm with 33s and 4.8 gears and rear auto locker. Now I'm getting 600-650km per tank and 100km at 2900rpm. Bonus - doesn't take 1min to get to 100 now haha and I can overtake without dropping gears and taking 3ks of road lol.
