200 series glove box won't close - dodgy catch, any ideas?

Unread post by camshaft » November 7th, 2012, 4:36 pm

Hi guys. Im now a proud owner of a 08 VX 200 series. Only problem is im having problems with my glovebox. It wont close. The mechinism in the lid doesnt seem to retract back out. Anyone else having the same problems? Is there a fix? I rang toyota today and they want $350 just for a new lid!

Thanks.
Cam.

So how'd you fix it?? C'mon, share the secret. ;)

Basically I did some exploratory surgery and drilled several 16 mm holes on the inside of the lid, the first three were to work out how it works, then I drilled another on top of the ridge in the middle, inside is a Philip head screw which I loosened and gave a squirt of peno lube and bingo, she works a treat.
I will stick some black tape over the holes till next time.
You only need to drill the one hole, if you need a measurement for the spot then I can measure it up.
I will work out how to add photo then post a few.

Here's a photo, had to crop it to get it small enough
