have gone to the 694,s LT Bridgestone 285/65/R17 so far they seem very good quiet and actually grip better than the dunlops did only thing they are speed rated to constant 190kph instead od 210kph so ill just have to drive slower

I have recently fitted 285/70 17 COOPER STT's to my 200 series
Am very happy with the tyres as I have been running coopers for the last 6 or so years now
The only problem I have is that the fuel economy has turned to crap
I have lost approx 200-250 km per tank

Has anyone had or heard of this happening to others that have done similar...???

I have also fitted the Roo System chip and Exhaust system ..... Thinking that this would of counter acted the tyre upgrade but it seems not

Put on a set of Mickey Thompson ATZ 5 rib 285 70R17's

Have done about 4000km and they seem to be OK. No noise and they ride really well.

Cheers

Got a set of Mickey Thompson 305 65 R17 ATZ4 for the GXL.
They just miss the plastic guard by 10mm on the front on 3/4 lock
I have 50mm lift but more lift wouldn't make any difference as it is
against the horizontal body that it is close. They are only 3% larger
in diameter than the factory tyres.

Gidday,

I am just about to put new tyres on my 200 series, first ones since new! I bought the car new in March 2009, and put BF Goodrich All Terains 285/70 R17 on it before I picked it up from Toyota. I have travelled 107,000 klms thus far on them, and not quite down the the wear mark indicators. I regularly have them serviced every 10K at Bob Jane, and there has been plenty of off road stuff as well, last trip was to Broom in WA via Gib River Road. Plenty of caravan towing as well. I believe that most tyres should give you a reasonable life as long as you look after them, balance and rotation is the key.
Hope this helps.
P.S. The next set will obviously be another round of BF Goodrich

What pressure did you run in those tyres?
If the shoulders are worn off all the tyres, it would indicate insufficient inflation pressure and that will reduce the life by causing more surface pressure to be applied through the shoulder than the whole tread at once, and it would also be making them run hotter which will shorten life.
