Having read a couple of threads on the forum, pulling the centre console wasn't that much of a challenge. But replacing a ripped gear stick boot is another kettle of fish.
There is a boot which is bolted down on the trans tunnel. It stops crap from getting in the trans and water from getting in the cab. Anyway, the centre hole in the boot is so small that to force it over the bottom of the gear stick would tear it. So my question is can you unscrew / separate the gear stick. There appears to be a join in the stick (where the fat part joins the skinny part). Any suggestions will be appreciated and yes the knob is off.

The stick does not separate, my guess is that the new boot will be pliable enough and with a small dose of love from a jar of petroleum jelly, should slide over for a once off fit leaving you wondering what all the fuss was about ;-)
