Is more than 9lbs boost on the turbo OK on my Cruiser?

Unread post by ddougan » September 14th, 2014, 11:00 am

Re the Cruiser article in issue 221 - A while ago, I too fitted a DTS turbo to my cruiser. The mechanic told me that the max boost shouldn't be more than 9 lbs. But the power at the wheels was quoted as 125 hp. This as he said relates to about 96 kw. So basically the turbo only takes care of the drivetrain losses. I still like it, but could I safely increase boost without doing any damage. My car is a daily driver and is used to tow a camper trailer.

Yes. Have you got boost EGT gauges fitted. I would only increase if done on the dyno with gauges fitted so you can keep an eye on temps etc. I have the DTS with adjust under 10 pis.

I wouldn't be touching anything without an EGT gauge. Get one, for under $200 and then you know for sure how your engine is feeling at any given time!
