Buying 4wd less than $10k

Unread post by Blakenic » June 3rd, 2018, 10:37 pm

Wanting to buy a 4wd for less than $10k. I know there is a lot of debate about petrol vs diesel 4wds but I think at the price point I will get more value out of a petrol, also have a lot more experience mechanically with petrols. But either way am not too bothered.
What would be a decent 4wd, something cheap on parts and fairly good on fuel.
I was thinking something along the lines of a 80 series cruiser or a pajero.

Get a 80 series or a Patrol for around the $5-6000 and use the left overs for a service, fun parts and needed parts.
You can buy a decent well maintained car for that or less. You need to take your time and might need to check 75 cars before you find the right one.
The Patrol, Pajero and 80 series are not even close to being decent on fuel. All from own experience.
A full size 4WD on Petrol will use about 1 liter of fuel every 4.5 KM on the normal road.
If fuel consumption is an issue see if you can find a well maintained Disco TD. They can be found fairly cheap.
