I only bought this jeep because it was cheap and I just sold my LC. I do not need it for daily duties and wanted a cheap project.
The good thing about not needing it all the time is that I have the time to find really good bargains. They are out there but not easy to find.
I am still surprised how fast it is.
I think that I will stick with it for a bit and just have some fun with it.

Cheers

Hey Dutchy, you need some sill protection now you can hop rocks, some sliders. and a decent bash plate for the front .

I don't like rock sliders. Have a good look at them...they lower your car by an inch easy....I tried and tried again but no not a fan.
Bash plate might be an idea.

Hello all

I did spend a bit more on the car that I thought to flip quickly.....

Anyway I put some 285's on the old girl. The bigger spare doesn't fit in the back anymore and a spare on the roof is no option for me.
So I had a chat with an engineer/ steel fabricator and we designed this spare carrier.
It did cost me an arm and a leg but it does a great job.

The engineer made a hinge in it so I can drop the spare and have access to the back of the car. I'll add that photo later.

for an arm and a leg, I would have thought he would have put a spring on it, like on the tail gate of a horse float, then you could lift it effortlessly with a wheel on!!. .. take it back and get the leg back!!

That might be an idea, I'll have a look at a horse float and see how that works.
It did cost an arm and a leg and I should have thought about it a bit more before I gave the "go ahead"....
$100 an hour is normal rate. Few hours here and there, materials etc. and you spend big before you now it.
Good thing is it doesn't need to stay with the car and can come with me and fit any other car I might buy later.
If I hold on to it for 15 years it ends up not a bad investment....... ;-)
Thanks

I intend to get myself a GC diesel soon, mainly because of the mercedesOM642 motor.

Couple of questons - who did the lift and what did it cost?

Why was a rear diff-locker necessary? Doesn't that model come with the Quadra Drive 2 4WD system? If it works as well as the YouTube clips you wouldn't need a DL

Dude you have the wrong model! BigDutchy's is a WG, came with QD1 (conventional LSD) or QT1(open centre)

The next model (WH) had the OM642 & QDII system (up till 2007, became an option after that). Ask all the questions you want on my build thread.

Not many similarity's between the 2 models; suspension, transfer case, & motor are all different. :D
Yes I did! Built with spanners not chop sticks!

The Jeep has been sold. It's gone!!

And to be honest, I can't see myself ever buying one again. I loved it's V8, the sound and speed but I didn't find it very comfortable, to small, just not my thing.
It's a Jeep thing I never got!

Back to the drawing board.....
