Need Timing belt kit and water pump replacement instructions

Unread post by DangerPE » November 1st, 2015, 5:10 pm

Hey guys,

Long time reader first time poster
Just bought a ford courier 2002 space cab.

Unfortunately needs a timing belt, but the mechanics recommend a kit and a water pump.
Anyone got a PDF of the instructions or somewhere I can find out what I need to know.

I'm fairly handy with a spanner, but unsure if there are any issues or important tips with it.

Cheers

PM sent with some info that might be handy.

It isn't a hard job, but a bit fiddly. Getting the fan on and off is the hardest bit.

Best to do them both at the same time too, I did the belt and 2 years later had to do the pump. A lot of wasted effort there and lucky when the water pump main bearing and seal failed I was only 1km from home and it was all down hill to my driveway.

Take the radiator out first. Dont try to do it with it in.

so ive read through a manual, and it doesnt really say much about the pulleys.
any issues with pully these off, in terms of timing rotation or anything?

the only concern i have, if i line up the timing marks, pull the pulleys off and then replace them with new pulley timing marks is there a risk of them being in the incorrect spot?

cheers guys, great help so far

The pulley on the water pump is no issue as it doesn't matter when it goes back on. The crank shaft gets set to top dead center and then you don't touch it again.

You take the plastic cover off and there are 2 toothed pulleys that the belt run over, these should be set to the timing marks when you take the belt off, if not, turn the motor over by hand until the mark on the crank pulley aligns and the 2 marks on the toothed pulleys align.
Make sure they are still set when the belt goes back on, then set the tensioner, check again, turn the motor over by hand and check again.
