Bravo Intercooler upgrade

Unread post by chris_stoffa » June 17th, 2015, 6:49 pm

Just did an intercooler upgrade on the 03 Bravo 2.5WLT

Was at the wreckers hunting a headlight and spotted an 06 Ranger that still had its intercooler in place
3 minutes with a 10mm on the Dewalt and it was out. $100 it was mine.
( Important that the mounting plate is grabbed also ( 3x 10mm bolts ) and it came with a mesh guard as well - Bonus !
Took it home and 45 minutes and a couple of trimmed rubber hoses and its in place.

Gotta be the easiest of upgrades besides a headlight globe upgrade

Does it make a difference - on a 30 minute drive I noticed that it seems to spin a little harder at the top end , seems to pull from a tad lower in the rev range but the main difference is that when the revs are kept around the 2-3000 range seems to be quite a bit more responsive. It does make a difference.

And the reason - the old unit was 14cm x 32cm ( total area 448sq cm ) the new unit is 21cm x 35cm ( total area 735cm ) - a 30% increase

Worth the $100 and the almost non strenuous effort to put it in :D

Cheers

Chilli
Have driven it for a few more days now and it is a worthwhile swap.

Interestingly on other forums / facebook it seems if a larger aftermarket intercooler is used it tends to create lag and no real improvement, it seems that this could be an optimal size for this engine.

This is on a totally stock engine which is due to go in for its yearly techo tuneup so it will be interesting to feel the results after its tuneup

Hey Chris, looks like I've done the intercooler on my Courier. I was checking out the Parts Guide on Supercheap's website, and the part number for the PH Couriers and PJ-PK Rangers intercoolers are all the same. It doesn't change until the 2011 model PX. It may be that the Courier one fits the early Rangers and they've decided close enough will do, but just chasing a little clarification from you. That was definitely an '06 model and definitely bigger?
Thanks mate. Chris.
