Unread post by sudso » June 14th, 2009, 10:11 am

Anybody heard of retro fitting a Nissan/Datsun pwr stg box to an older F-100? Have heard its possible but I dont know any details eg: what box, fit up procedure etc.
Any advice appreciated.

Yes have got one on my 1980 LWB F100.Uses a Nissan Patrol steering box with a custom made Pitman Arm.You use the standard Ford power steering pump that came on all Ford cars.A bloke in Melbourne makes the bits up and I think he supplies everything inc. hoses etc.Mine was done in Adelaide, but will get a contact name and number for you in the next couple of days.I have big 16's on mine and it steers like a 4 cylinder car.

Iv'e got a 78 f100 with power steering, box is out of a later model 79 or 80s i think. was fitted before I brought it. all engineered with plate welded to chassis rail behind box to strengthen rail.

Another option is the power steering out of a Toyota crown, I think. IIRC it all but bolts straight in. If ya interested I can find out more.

Hi Zako,

I have a 1979 f100 with a ford power steering box and ford pump the chasis is modified to mount the box forward of the original position. The box is from a 1970 - 1980 2wd American f100, the pitman arm faces rearwards. I am currently mounting a refurbished one from the states and can take photos if you like.

This is what I found out,

"Nissan 260C or 280C. I think only 1 or 2 bolts line up and you have to drill the others. Pitman arm goes strait on, I think the ford flexable coupling does to. Just remake the fluid lines and use the ford pump. Have to notch the chasis a little bit for pitman arm clearence, as it does sit a poofteenth higher. Will only suit F100's with the steering box behind the front axle, 1972 to 1980"

Hope this helps

cheers

So I bought a f100 for my missus she wanted one forever she drove it once and said it needed power steering so did a bit of research decided to use patrol running gear we used a mk power steering box and a gu td42 pump and I made a bracket for it to attach to the cleveland. Just taking it easy next weekend I'll mount the box and get enzed out to hook it all up and make the lines
