Ranger / BT50 - New &/or Old - Known Problems

Unread post by RangerPunx » December 31st, 2010, 3:41 pm

Hey fellas

im about to purchase my second ranger and just wanted a heads up on any problems i should be looking out for. Currently theres not much about QLD for sale so looks like I will be flying somewhere interstate to buy, possibly privately.
Im after a <80k dual cab 4WD not bothered on model or trim level just it cant be white (or grandpa gold).
Because im not going to get the opportunity to go over a car before i head out what should i be looking for and asking to be checked before i get on the plane.
I read the thread on the rusting under window seal which is definitely something that needs to be fixed and not something I want to have to deal with if its out of warranty.

Cheers
His: 09 Ford XR6T Ute
Hers(or so she thinks): 07 Ford Ranger XLT

Depending on your budget, have you considered holding off for anotherfew months until the 2011 Ranger goes on sale?

Like what just been said, keep saving your cash til the T6 ranger comes out.

I not a fan of the new shape, im not really a fan of the current shape either. The PJ is what im aiming for. I would much preferred a F150ish look to the truck. My original was so easy to modify as well.

Anyways its not for me its for the missus who will be trading her 3dr Vitara.

I originally traded my C/C ranger to get a dual cab but got side tracked and walked out with an XR6T ute. :o Kinda worked out as now i can have the best of both worlds. :thumb:

So the budget will be about 25-30k including a canopy and some other hardware.

Fair enough, gotta say I prefer the PJ shape over the PK also.

Will start a new thread on Ranger/BT50 problems, as these questions seem to get asked quite a bit.

Ranger / BT50 - Known Problems

Unread post by JBird » January 1st, 2011, 1:52 pm

G'day all,

After seeing quite a few threads asking about Ranger/BT50 problems I thought maybe we could get a sticky thread going on the subject; that way anyone thinking of buying a Ranger/BT50 will have all the info in one place?
I'll start with what I have read/experienced etc, and then hopefully you guys can add/clarify things on/to the list.
Every so often I will edit this post to add any info/clarification/suggestions that come to hand via this thread ;)

PJ Ranger 2006 - 2009:
PK Ranger 2009 - 2011:
PX Ranger 2011 - Current:
  • Occasional increase in revs in 3.2 Auto box
ICC (Interior Command Centre) not displaying on & off
Misalignment of rear section of tail shaft
Warning lights coming on at different times for no apparent reason
    Selector/locator plate coming loose

Anyone happen to know the equivalent models for the BT50 ie: PJ Ranger = ? BT50?

Also, would anyone be familiar with what years the different models ran for ie: PJ Ranger - 07 to 09?

I think the BT50 is just that, a BT50. (the new ones are just face lifted)
The BT50 started from '06+
The PJ Ranger went from '06-'09
The PK Ranger started from '09+

How do the auto boxes go once you leave the blacktop? Last one was a manual but the missus wants to drop the 3rd pedal.
