i was trying to steer away from the complete heart transplant. i was thinking a edelbrock performer manifold, a 600 cfm holley supercharger carb and a sc14 super charger.

Re: 3.5 v8 upgrades
Thousands of dollars of mods on a $500 engine. With the Holley I would investigate thoroughly as they are not good offroad as is and cannot handle slopes. There is a mod to fix this but seems to have mixed results. Have you considered a Gems injection system off a 3.9 (cheap extra power) or a stroker kit - is quite expensive but works well.
I am in the process of building a 4.6 to replace my 3.5 and will result in nearly double the power for about $2000 worth of parts and work. I sourced a dead 4.0 and a dead 4.6 and combining them to make the 4.6.

I assume you mean 4.6 - was fitted to P38 RR and US Disco 2s. As fitted originally the engine was injected (Gems early and Thor later) but the 3.5 though to the 4.6 is basically the same engine just different bores and strokes - 4.0s and 4.6s also have cross bolted four bolt main bearing caps. A 3.5 carb system will fit on a 4.6 engine - you just need to get jets etc redone. Likewise your Holly and manifold will bolt on to all of these engines.
The Gems version goes well and in its basic setup requires minimal sensors.
Also don't forget the P76 4.4V8 - same family of engines but does have a lot of differences and these engines are getting long in the teeth.

where would be the best joint to chase up about a 4.6 short motor?
