DEXRON III or not?

Unread post by PhillGUY612.8 » April 8th, 2012, 7:30 am

Hi Guy's,
About to do a service on my RD28 TD, the workshop manual recommends DEXRON III for the rear diff but my local mechanic and sales rep recommended using a regular oil with similar weight. My question is is this right/safe for my vehicle or is he talking out his ***? Is there any benefit from sticking with the DEXRON III?

Auto oil in the rear diff??????

Dont think so.

The book spec for the rear diff is 85w140LS. but 80w90LS (LS90) is still ok.

you would be looking at the spec for the transfer case, as the spec change from a 80w90 oil in that to a auto oil (dexron 111) with the introduction of the auto hubs.
