Need fuel and hydraulic lines - what's the go?

Unread post by jgrov2 » December 8th, 2015, 9:54 pm

Im swapping in a 3uz into my hilux looking too see what other people have done in regards to fuel lines and power steering etc. My current lines are full of rust so I cant reuse them. Are these items diy what have other blokes out there done? I dont have any tube gear i.e. flaring kits or bemders so if I do it myself may need to get some gear was thinking maybe calling someone like enzed to sort out lines but image ill need to sell kidneys to pay for it. Im thinking hardlines like the current ones for fuel with high pressure hose for flexible parts or maybe some fancy braided ***** and some high pressure hose for power steering? No idea what best practice is around this sort of thing. cheers

Yep, enzed will require a kidney as a deposit. I have made a lot of pipes and some gear for show cars, but I have access to a lot of the gear at work.

For fuel lines you will need a beading tool to put that raises section so the fuel line doesn't slide off once the clamp is installed.

Hyd lines, I'm not sure what fittings you have. Flared fittings are easy to work with, if they are braised or swaged onto the lines, then that can be a problem as you need really specialised gear to do that.

But, hyd and fuel lines shouldn't be corroded on the inside, it will probably just be some surface corrosion. Can you clean them up and paint them?

we flushed them a bit and a shitload of rust and red ***** came out, they are 20 years old the outside is fine just the inside looks stuffed. I think I might have a crack at bending some tube and using AN fittings? they seem to be fairly common and easy to work with. I might just measure the power steering lines and get them sorted properly although I did just read an article on a bloke who made his own using high pressure hose and AN fittings
