Hilux 3RZ 2.7 Dualcab fuel economy towing Caravan

Unread post by Hilux3RZontour » December 28th, 2014, 10:24 am

I've got a tidy old hilux 4x4 2.7 2000 model and am planning a large trip for next year around oz towing a 16.5 foot 1989 pop top caravan and trying to work out accurate fuel usage. We've only done one trip towing the van so far and the ussage scared me a little tho I didn't accurately measure it. I ussally get between 400-500 per tank without towing, vehicle gas a 2" lift and 255/70R16 A/T tyres other then that standard. I believe they run a 66l tank. Has anyone had experience towing a van with a 2.7 hilux and monitored the fuel consumption? Also has anyone put extractors/exhaust and chip to their 2.7 to improve their fuel economy?

This my first post, not sure but it maybe more suited to tech talk if so please advise.

Tom

Ive raised the height of the van also and it sits a little heigher then the ute so was thinking it may be getting some wind drag so am thinking of a wind deflector on the canopy of the ute also? Any knowledge or experience on the area would be great!

Cheers Tom
