one of the guys at my old work owns one & it was pretty impressive on the open road, wouldn't want to do anything more than dirt tracks/fire trails off road as the fear of damaging it off road.

one hint!.. have a look at the last dvd of 4wd action! even a GU nissan is stranded with an ignition key that won't talk to the ECU!!! 2 grand to get him to the nearest nissan dealer! can you imagine what it'll cost to get a VW to a dealer when your stranded in woop woop??? with a elec. fault!! or just to recode a key!!

[quote="offroadjack"]

Please explain?

Decent set of wheels and tyres and your off.

They have low range, very good ground clearance, traction control, some have rear diff locks and have the power and torque to put just about any other 4wd to shame.

Any way - I after comments from people who have actually owned one.

Yes I have seen one do the Simpson, the flinders and the Victorian High Country with no dramas (V10 one)

it was comfortable, capable and surprisingly economical. Packing camping gear was an intricate puzzle. He also sourced some offroad rally tyresfrom Europe to comy with speed and load rating.

Who said anything about a V12 - I mentioned V10 - it is in the original post.

Thanks - corrected the original post the thread title.

I don't think so - Q7 is a big softroader rather than full on 4wd like the Toureg. I don't believe it has low range and certainly does not have the ground clearance.

Audi Q7 is nothing like the Toureg. The Porsche Cayenne is the similar vehicle.

garrycol, no doubt they have the torque and power, coz they do! i just don't think you'd find anyone on here that actually owns one of these monsters! and be on this forum..
not many people spend a 150K on a 4B and take it bush..
i would LOVE to take one for a drive with a good set of tyres and see what it can do!
they got the power to tow just about anything around this country and see lots of it but to steer it into the middle of nowhere in the really rough stuff? i would not...
the outback is toyota and nissan territorry!!

I'm sure all the people who do it regularly in Land Rovers, Mitsubishis, Holdens, Suzukis etc would disagree with such a narrow minded blanket statement like that.
