MK triton wheel lock stuck on

Unread post by cogo81 » September 12th, 2007, 4:38 pm

Just brought a 2000 triton and I can't work out how to get the wheel lock off, I have done what it describes in the manual but it still stays on.

Hi
My Mk 2000mdl GLS wheel lock light stays on after I shift back to 2wd, I have to turn the engine off and restart to make it go away. Is this what your is doing?

wheel lock

Unread post by royboy » September 18th, 2007, 8:58 pm

Hi guys, my 1997 MK does this as well. To me it seems really stupid. You should just be able to stop the vehicle, shift into/out of 4wd and NOT have to turn the thing off. Even when i turn it off it still does not unlock. Seems like you have to wait a while. Might have to start smoking again so i have something to do while i wait. If anyone has any advice that would be gr8.

I get that problem sometimes... this is what i do

stop the car
go into neutral (its an auto)
switch to 2WD
turn off the car
turn the car back on
if the wheel lock light is still on, driving forward a bit usually unlocks them or if its still locked after about 10m, try reversing as well.

The manual even says you have to turn the triton off.

Once had it stuck in for a day, wouldnt unlock at all, drove about 60km with it locked and the next day it was ok, seems to unlock a lot easier now.

Hi
Just an idea have you tried bouncing the front wheels on the kerb, it used to work for Landrovers and 4WD Bedfords, may work.

Hi

I have a 2002 triton gls 4x4 auto and have the exact same problem.
If you could are you able to tell me where and what solenoid it is. Also i have a clunking coming from the front left, could this have something to do with the front wheels being locked all the time?

Cheers
