pre purchase research pro's nd cons of the diesel renegade.

Unread post by tim_pato » March 21st, 2015, 10:54 am

I'm looking at buying a jeep renegade turbo diesel around 05 07 model.
My wife needs a new car and is deadset it has to be an auto medium sized suv. I want to get something that will tow a car and trailer.
The only medium sized suv (that's not chinese junk) on the market with a decent towing capacity is the turbo diesel jeep renegade.
I'd like to hear from people who currently or have owned one that can tell me what they think about them. How they ride, reliability hiw they handle towing heavy loads, any week points etc.

I assume you are referring to the KJ Cherokee.
The engine is an earlier version of the current engine in the Colorado's & diesel Wranglers (2005 may have only been the 2.5L engine, go for a 2.8 version).
Number 1 question to ask
When was the timing belt changed?
Did they change the water pump at the same time (highly recommended)

Yes I did! Built with spanners not chop sticks!

We do not have SUVs in Australia - they are 4wds or softroaders.

Why do we allow Americanisms into out language :-(

A fitting title i would think considering jeeps are American. Unfortunately there is no medium sized 4wd's made in aus that will tow as much as a kj.

A Discovery 2 TD5 is only a tad larger and is considered a mid sized 4wd.
