From all accounts the R380 and LT230 are pretty strong, it's why rock crawlers use them, there are heaps of D2s and Fenders out there with the intercooler and chip upgrades and haven't had any dramas, just got to be aware of your axles when your on the go pedalknown2 wrote:how long will your gearbox last with this much. as i think there only rated to about 380nm.
a mate with a worked td5 defender has just done his gearbox after about 50000k's

Baz judging by your power and torque figures and pulling your camper trailer with your TD5 what do you think is wrong with this example?Redback wrote:Well mines just turned over 154,000ks with no probs, but mine only has 135kw 360Nm and i tow a 1.3t campertrailer in 5th gear
Mines only the medium upgrade, a mate has a 130 Def that has been chipped from new, with 180,000ks with no probs.
Baz.
I have a (recently aquired) 2001 Td5 4spd auto Disco. I am pulling a 1.4T fully laden wind-up camper. My Td5 cannot hold top gear at 100 kph on flat roads with no wind. I strongly suspect that it should be doing much better than this.
Note the Td5 came with a Tunit gadget fitted. I'm not sure what influence this is having. What is the best way/person to see/place to go to inspect the setup and rectify if necessary? I am in Warrnambool Vic. Thanks, Chris
