Gear ratio's of 79 series

I have been trying to find the actual gear ratios of the 79 series 1HD fte engine on the web with no luck. Have try searching on this forum again with no luck.

I understand there is a difference in engines between the 79 series 4.2 and the 100 seires engine. Is there a difference in the gearbox ratios as well?

Is the 79 sereis a lower gear ratio like the 105 series 1HZ gearbox?

Cheers Matt H

Re: Gear ratio's of 79 series

Took me to blow a diff and pull it out to find the ratio of my 79 . As much info that told me it was 4.1 there was same amount of info on net telling me it had 4.3s even one diff shop said 4.1 another said his **** toldhim 4.3s
so the petrol 79 series are 4.3

Re: Gear ratio's of 79 series

Thanks for the reply Clintfzj79, but the info I was after was the gear ratios for the 1st,2nd,3rd, 4th and fifth gears inthe gear box.

I am trying to work out if the 79 gearbox ratios in the 4.2 turbo diesel are different to the 100 series 4.2 turbo diesel.

Cheers Matt

Re: Gear ratio's of 79 series

Have you looked up an old issue of the 4wd action mag?? I think i have the issue lying around when they test drove the HDJ79R and should have the specs. You should be able to find that informantion on the internet too I would hope!

my bad
all you need to do to see if they have a different gear ratio in the box is look at the Id tag on the vehicle so maybe stop at some car yards they will either say h150 or h151 sAme box different 1st gear ratio , the turbo v8 utes etc run the h150 my petrol ute runs a h150 im more than sure the td 6 utes and 100s run the h150 aka same ration box

Re: Gear ratio's of 79 series

No dramas Clintfzj79, that is a good idea. I also just found out that a mate of mine's father has one on his farm so I have asked him to find out.

I thought that the 79 sereis might be a little lower geared being more of a workhorse that the 100series turbo diesel.

Not readable, but looks interesting.

Can just make out some of it.

Do you have a better quality version?

Re: Gear ratio's of 79 series

The HDJ79 should have the H150F gearbox. The diff ratio should be 4.1:1
Do the HDJ100s have the H151F?

Below after a quick search on Google and 'H150F ratio'.

http://tlcwiki.com/wiki/H150F_Transmission
Gear Ratios:
1st 4.529:1
2nd 2.464:1
3rd 1.490:1
4th 1:1
5th 0.881:1

Cheers

Andrew

Re: Gear ratio's of 79 series

Looking at the brochure as best I can it appears that the H150F trans has a 0.811:1 overdrive ratio? Can anyone confirm this as info is very hard to find?

Re: Gear ratio's of 79 series

I know the info you can find on the web says 0.881, but it does look like 0.811 on the spec petunia posted above.

Re: Gear ratio's of 79 series

Hi Simon,

You are right - does look like that - and here is another post:

http://www.exploroz.com/Forum/Topic/682 ... eover.aspx

The 4.300 diffs are only found behind the 1Hz motor and the small R151F gearbox.
The 4.100 diffs are found behind the factory TDs with H150F gearbox.
The 4.111 diffs are found in the 60/75/80 series.

FactoryTD 1HD-FTE: HDJ78/79 with H150F gearbox:
1st: 4.529
2nd: 2.464
3rd: 1.490
4th: 1.0
5th: 0.811
Transfer: 2.488
Diffs: 4.100

N/A Diesel 1Hz: HZJ78/79/105 with R151F gearbox:
1st: 4.313
2nd: 2.330
3rd: 1.436
4th: 1.0
5th: 0.838
Transfer: 2.295
Diff 4.300

60/61/75 series with H55F gearbox:
1st: 4.843
2nd: 2.618
3rd: 1.516
4th: 1.000
5th: 0.845
Transfer: 1.963
Diffs: 4.111

80series. 1Hz had H150F box with 2.488 transfer and 4.111 diffs

80series 1HD-T and 1FZ-FE had H151F box, 2.488 transfer and 4.111 diffs:
1st 4.081
2nd 2.294
3rd 1.49
4th 1.0
5th 0.881

Re: Gear ratio's of 79 series

Sorry guys,
Just rescanned the relevant bit. Hope its more readable. But I think you guys have picked up a typo - the overdrive should be 0.881 - I have confirmed this on another printout I have from 2004 and also this site:

Re: Gear ratio's of 79 series

Was hoping the later H150F had a taller overdrive like the brochure suggests. Would be a straight swap for the H151F in my 80 which has a useless 0.881 overdrive. May as well call it a 4 speed..... Oh well, more research on the H260.....
