Hilux front leaf springs, Best brand for hardcore stuff.
Hey people,
Just wanted to get peoples opinions on what they see as the best leaf springs for the front of my 86 lux. I'm talking hardcore, no road use, no weight (apart from bar), just comp and play.
Am on my 3rd set in 18months (less than 5000k). Wont say which brand i use, cause i dont want to bag them out, as i use other products of theirs with great results.
Am leaning towards Dobinsons as i have heard good stuff from some people on them.
Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.

FACTORY!!!!
after building more than my fair share of comp lux's, i have never used anything other than original factory springs!!! look they still have an arch in them after 10-15years so they always will!!! they use real steel, not just molten crap with old coke cans and malvern star bike frames!!! We generally do a wrecker run and buy 2-3 sets of old springs to get exactly what we need.
If you need 3-5" of lift then combine 1 set of std rears (6 or 7mm leaves), and 1 set of YN65 rears (5-6mm leaves)
keep the stagger of the leaves long, and have 2 retainers on the trailing side to stop wrap (minimal gap to spring) this almost simulates having links!!!

How much lift are looking to get? Going with a longer leaf spring will help.

hey mate, they may be abit expensive, but from wjat i've seen recently, i'd be inclined to go the classic trail gear set-up. however you will need to relocate you shackles hanger i think?? as they use longer springs. however everything needed for the kit is included, blakelines, shocks, springs, shock hoops, knuckly rebuild kit, high steer crossover steering along with heaps of other stuff, i'm saving up to get at least the rear, and possibly the front at the same time.

Re: Hilux front leaf springs, Best brand for hardcore stuff.
I have installed new Dobinsons front leaf springs but they are so ruff. I have seen springs with just 2 leaves up front on a Hilux; what are they named and where can I get them from? They must give a better ride.
Cheers guys

I am now running ironman 4x4 constant heavy load leafs front and back, with pro foam cell shocks all around.
Very happy so far.
