NM Pajero on 33's

Unread post by Snapcatcher » October 27th, 2009, 8:39 pm

Well this is my 2001 NM Pajero. Not a lot done to it yet, but have some future plans, so I thought I'd start a thread and then see how the ol paj is looking in a few years time.

I bought this vehicle as my first 4B back in Feb this year as a full stocker. Here's how it looked then.

After owning it for a couple of weeks, I found some sloppy mud near my place. Got bogged pretty bad, and a nearby fisherman came over and snatched me out backwards. That effort broke off the standard bash/slash plate, which is made of firbeglass and not much good for anything. Thought I'd better get a steel bash plate, and read about another guy getting one made up cheap from a local fabricator using the original as a template. I thought I'd do the same thing. In the end it toom 2 weeks and cost me $160. If I had my time again I'd just buy at TJM sump guard for $180.
Soon I plan to get a TJM tranny gaurd as well.

He He.....Welcome to the NM Mod brigade. I reckon there a great Fourby and we love ours as well. I like the Silver colour of yours as well.

What are your first planned mods going to be. I think they need a front bar to look really good and then you have a great place to throw the lights and arial for you two way

Next thing the Paj needed was new shoes. After lots of research I went with the Mickey Thompson ATZ's in 265/75/16. Very happy and impressed with these tyres. Have done about 16 000 klms so far and cant fault them. I cant notice any difference in on road handling ability from the previous Yokohama highway terrains. Off road the're like chalk and cheese. Great tyres.

When these ones wear out ill be getting 33" MTZ's (maybe b4 that if funds allow)

Next to come was the ARB deluxe winch bar. I also had it colour coded.

Well the Paj has has a few new mods come onboard over the last two weeks. The rear end has got a bit of a makeover. A while ago I hit a wall while wheelin out at Glasshouse. Put A ding on the rear passenger door and ripped off some body mouldings. That side of the rear bumper was already quite scratched up.

I decided to get a new steel rear bar instead of repairing the standard one. I got an Opposite Lock steel rear bar. Turns out I knew the manager Craig at Opposite Lock at Redcliffe, from the old days where I grew up, and he looked after me well.

Also got a rear spoiler/dust deflecter. Ive wanted one of these for a while just cause I like the look of them. I picked it up on ebay, then got it painted and fitted while it was at the panel shop.

Well Ive been struggling with communication on the forum runs with my 15 year old hand held radio, so a new UHF was needed. I wanted a din size unit with a front facing speaker, and decided on a Uniden UH500SX, and a 5 db fibreglass ariel. Both picked up new on ebay for good prices.

As everyone knows lifting wheels and getting good traction is an issue for all IFS vehicles. So to help combat that a bit Ive just fitted a 4WD Systems LOKKA auto diff locker in the front end. Havnt had it offroad yet, so cant comment yet on how it goes. I had it installed at AMMS Automotive at Sandgate.
On road it is slightly noticable even in 2WD. Im told cause I dont have freewheelin hubs, it will still engage in 2WD. I can hear it and feel it when turning slowly at full lock on the bitumen. Not worried about it though, and cant wait to get it offroad!

Another item thats not going to get me any further in the bush is the new tail lights. I really didnt like the look of the black surrounds of the original lights, and had always planned on replacing them with standard tail lights off the later model NP Paj. Then I saw these ones on ebay, and the price wasnt much different or aftermarket NP lights, so I got them. Have had them sitting in the cudboard for a while now, and just fitted them this arvo.
