Bad news about the 5R110 auto, needs a full rebuild which would be about 6k. Clutches burnt, pump gear broken & damage to converter so I'm going to put a low k used one in instead. Only clue to the failure was a loose bolt which regulates the fluid pressure inside the clutch & planetary gear area. Bolt almost fell out when the guts were removed, this lack of pressure may have led to the clutches burning out, which then left fragments to damage the pump which in turn damaged the converter.

I've uploaded some Cape York video to youtube, links in the Queensland Trip Report section.

Owch man. Gutted.

At least you don't have to pay someone to do all the repair work!

Hi Glen,

Not quite as rad as my favorite ********** tracks, my step is a lot more crushed than yours , but looked a lot of fun...

I'm glad you mention how these vehicles stride over obstacles... Gunshot looked a breeze and I liked some of the tilts through the creek crossings....

Was that the auto going after Cockatoo creek?

Step was repaired the next day, good as new!

I still haven't seen any of the Gopro footage the others took but I'm looking forward to it, should be some good viewing.

......no, just the idle too low and kept trying to stall, the corrugations kept causing the idle adjust knob in the dash to unwind and lower the idle too much.

G'day vic4wd!

thanks for posting the pic!

Unfortunately I didn't get any video of this crossing, was too distracted and forgot.
Palm creek really is a big way to start the tele track, hardest crossing first!
I did come out of it with a scrape down the driver side rear quarter & happy to have helped grade the track for ya'!

After the experience with the auto failing I've invested lots of time & money into 5 Autometer gauges;

Oil pressure
Pyrometer / EGT
Boost
Water temp
Transmission temp

couldn't get them all locally so got them all through Summit Racing in the US. Cost was 1000 inc freight and they were here in 8 days. If I could get them in Aus they would probably have costed 1400.

That of course meant I had to make my own mounting and they are all angled slightly towards driver for easier viewing.

I also decided to replace the stabiliser even though it still works fine and then thought, 'why not just fit both of them'?

Here are some shots of the interior all finished, no more work to be done there at least!

The auto is all sorted and shifting better than ever, the Guys at DTM in Geelong do a good job and spent a lot of time getting the shifts right.
